About Us

Our Greatest Differentiator

Our understanding of heavy freight operations, contracts, networks, markets, and commercial considerations intersects with financial transactions, combining financial acumen with subject matter expertise enabling insight and true creativity.

Services We Offer

Benefits Analysis

Our team has developed full-spectrum benefits analysis modeling techniques to quantify value accruing to diverse beneficiaries (owners, operators, cargo owners, agencies, the public, and the environment). This knowledge is crucial in structuring partnerships and securing public support for rail and port projects. Applied in public finance both domestically and internationally, our methodology expands upon typical government models to show wholistic benefits beyond the typical grant application BCA.

Financial Modeling

Our financial models not only generate projections and standard ratios, we build in sensitivity and scenario testing with dynamic graphic feedback, enabling our models to be used as solution design tools rather than just fancy calculators. We recently developed the US DOT’s new standard financial model for evaluating private loan applicants to the Build America Bureau’s railroad lending programs.

Railroad Valuations

Our team has pioneered applications of advanced statistical methods to retroactively perform activity-based profitability analysis and improve expense projections for short line railroads, successfully employed in several railroad acquisitions and valuations. Our valuations go beyond applying multiples to earnings, factoring capital programming and risk rating revenues to achieve true free cash flow analysis.

Capital Access Strategies

Given the risk profile and unique characteristics of transportation assets, we find unique applications in structured finance. Also, with diverse economic, commercial, public, and community benefits potentially generated by efficient heavy freight investments, we find opportunities to integrate public and private finance. Many engagements start with mapping a project’s specific capitalization strategy.

Private Placements of Debt and Equity

While our team has and will participate in public offerings, the size of most rail and port projects are best suited to private placements. Our partners collectively hold FINRA licenses 7, 24, 63, 79, and 82. They are registered representatives of and securities are offered through BA Securities, LLC member FINRA, SIPC.  Caplogx, LLC and BA Securities, LLC are separate and unaffiliated entities.

Mergers and Aquisitions

In the private sector, we represent both buy-side and sell-side clients in their pursuit of strategic growth and restructuring along with post-acquisition integration. In the public sector, we assist ports and industrial development authorities in administering concessions of freight transportation assets, while also assisting them in transportation asset acquisitions and divestitures.
